Local Business Helps APS Students Chase Their Dream

Two students receive $1,000 BEStstaff Inc. scholarships by former APS students who want to help others like them.

Two Albuquerque Public Schools seniors are $1,000 closer to reaching their dreams thanks to an employment staffing firm’s commitment to giving back to the students in its local school district. Ethan Alley of Highland and Hope Alvarado of Manzano have been awarded $1,000 scholarships by BEStstaff, Inc., an Albuquerque firm run by three former APS students who wanted to help deserving APS seniors chase their dreams of excellence.

Both students will be honored during their senior assemblies as Graduation Week approaches in APS.

Alley was the recipient of the BEStstaff scholarship, based on his outstanding academic work at Highland, in addition to participating on the school’s nationally recognized We The People Team. He also volunteered in the summer for Amigos de la Americas, which works on community-based projects in Latin America. He plans to attend Harvard University in the fall.

Alvarado received the firm’s Owner’s Choice award, another $1,000 scholarship, after a high school career built on excellent academics and a commitment to volunteerism. Although she faced significant challenges, she participated in a whirlwind of activities both in and out of school. She was involved in the Manzano student senate, National Honor Society, Model United Nations and the school’s AVID program. She plans to attend the University of New Mexico.

“It’s an honor for us to do something for students in APS because when you read the scholarship applications from seniors in this school district, you know just how committed they are to their futures,” said Steven Turner, the President and COO of BEStstaff, Inc. “I know Ethan and Hope are headed to big things, and we’re thrilled we can play a part.” The BEStstaff Ownership Team founded the scholarship earlier this year. All are APS graduates. BEStstaff, Inc. provides quality staffing through temporary employees, payroll services and direct placement services.
