Kirtland Federal Credit Union and Van Buren MS Exemplify a Great Partnership

Kirtland Federal Credit Union has partnered with several schools over the years but the focus is currently on Van Buren MS. From financial support to volunteers helping with a variety of activities, KFCU has been there for Van Buren.

Chuck Crisler, KFCU AVP of Public Relations, and KFCU mascot Koda are shown with Kara Cortazzo, VBMS Asst. Principal, left, and Cardinal Rieger, VBMS Principal, during a recent check presentation to the school.

The credit union recently donated a variety of sports equipment like soccer balls and basketballs.  Volunteers participated in International Night last May.  And just recently a check for $440.44 was presented to the school from the sale of Entertainment Books.

Kirtland’s lovable koala mascot, Koda, is always available to attend an event at Van Buren.  Financial literacy is a focus of most financial services companies, and Kirtland Federal Credit Union is no exception.  The Youth Savings program, called the Koala Club,  reinforces the importance of saving and budgeting for students.  Kirtland FCU employees are always willing to speak to parents and teachers, as well, about financial topics of interest.

Kirtland offers a Youth Savings Carnival to the community and many APS students attend.  The event will be held this year on Saturday, February 23, from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.  Many of the carnival games teach about money and finances as well.  The credit union also sponsors NDI, the National Dance Institute, at Sandia Base ES and is willing to offer the Mad City Money financial literacy program to an interested high school.  Kirtland Federal Credit Union has four locations and about 130 employees in Albuquerque.   Van Buren MS principal Cardinal Rieger says, “We are fortunate to be associated with such a caring and supportive organization.  The Kirtland Federal Credit Union employees’ enthusiasm has been a wonderful addition to our school spirit.”  Thanks to Kirtland FCU primary partnership contact Judy Ruiz, the VP of Marketing and Public Relations, the partnership has flourished in recent years.
