Keleher & McLeod Law Firm and Jefferson MS Partner for 23 Years

Five extraordinary 8th graders visited the Keleher & McLeod conference room on Friday morning be interviewed by a team of attorneys who will select the Jefferson MS 8th Grade Leadership Award, which will be presented at an assembly at the end of the school year.

The Keleher & McLeod, P.A., and Jefferson MS partnership has flourished since 1989. Participants in the 8th Grade Leadership Award program are shown here.

Keleher & McLeod has been a loyal and continuous partner to Jefferson MS since 1989.  The selection of the Leadership Award is always a favorite activity of the law firm, according to Susan Malizzo, who has been the point of contact for Keleher & McLeod for 9 years.  Students Domenic Gonzales, Erin Meadors, Kameo Pino, Fiona Wohrer and Marley Roberts were accompanied by teacher Ron Reynolds to the 12th floor conference room to be interviewed one at a time.  Students were asked questions about their resumes, which listed academics and community service, summary statements which highlighted what they were most proud of during their time at Jefferson MS, and Leadership Essays which focused on an individual worthy of emulating.  The students’ poise and articulate responses made the final selection process difficult for participating attorneys Heather Hansen, Stephen Lane, Eduardo Provencio, David Peterson and Ms. Malizzo.

The winner will be announced at an assembly for the Jefferson MS community on Monday, May 21, at 6:00p.m. at Albuquerque HS.  The awards will be presented by Sean Olivas, a Keleher & McLeod attorney, who has been participating in this event for many years.  The first place winner will receive a $150 gift card, second place will receive a $100 gift card, and three honorable mentions will receive $75 gift cards.  Mr. Reynolds said that the selection process at Jefferson MS was difficult, as well, with many students qualified to make the final cut.  Keleher & McLeod sponsors an essay contest for all three grade levels and also provides professional support for Jefferson MS students in the Mock Trail process each year.  The partnership has also included job shadowing with employees and help for a struggling family during the holidays.  APS appreciates the long time and loyal support for Jefferson MS!
