Jackie & Tony of 100.3 The Peak to Emcee A is for Art!

The popular radio hosts and longtime supporters of public education will lend their voices to the fourth annual event sponsored by the APS Education Foundation on Sept. 20 at Hotel Albuquerque.

Two of the best voices in Albuquerque – Jackie and Tony of 100.3 The Peak – probably won’t do any singing at this year’s A is for Art! celebration, but their talents are sure to make the event a great evening.

Jackie and Tony, two longtime supporters of public education, have agreed to emcee A is for Art!, which is scheduled for Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Hotel Albuquerque. Entering its fourth year, the event is a fundraiser for the APS Education Foundation and the APS Fine Arts Department.

“Jackie and Tony have been so gracious with their time and effort, and we really can’t thank them enough,” said Foundation Executive Director Phill Casaus. “They emceed the event last year, and really made it a blast for everyone concerned.”

A is for Art! is a live and silent auction of the best artwork APS high school students produce during the school year. As of mid-April about 200 pieces have been donated to the Foundation, with students receiving 40 percent of each sale.

In 2012, the event netted nearly $75,000 and was evenly split between the Foundation and Fine Arts. The Foundation uses its portion to put on the next year’s show, and Fine Arts plows the money back into high school student art programs.

In addition, APS musicians and performers will be at the event, including the Eldorado High School Gold Rush show choir, the defending state champion and one of the top performing groups in the Southwest.

Tickets for the event will go on sale early in the summer, and sponsorships are being sold as well. For more information, contact Casaus at casaus@aps.edu, 878-6165 or Shannon Barnhill at Shannon.Barnhill@aps.edu or 855-5273.
