Foundation names three new board members

Arellana Cordero, Bertrand “Bert” Parnall and Heather Johnson begin their three-year terms this fall.

The Albuquerque Public Schools Education Foundation has added three well-respected business leaders and lifelong Albuquerqueans to its board of directors.

Arellana Cordero, Bertrand “Bert” Parnall and Heather Johnson begin their three-year terms this fall, Board President Jeff Lunsford said.

“We are deeply gratified to have new members with such deep ties to public education in Albuquerque,” said board President Jeff Lunsford. “Arellana, Bert and Heather are committed to the community and I know they’ll help make the Foundation even stronger.”

Parnall is a native of Albuquerque and a 1988 graduate of Albuquerque High School. He was a class salutatorian and played football for the Bulldogs before graduating from Rice University in 1993. He later graduated from the University of New Mexico Law School and currently operates his own practice.

Cordero is the Senior Vice President of Finance for Southwest Capital Bank and the co-owner and Operations Manager for Cocina Azul, an Albuquerque restaurant.

At Southwest Capital Bank, Cordero helps develop organizational strategy, works with new business start-ups and assists in overall company management. She also is an Albuquerque High graduate and serves as the co-executive director of Vintage Albuquerque, a nonprofit that raises funds for arts in the community.

Johnson is a Commercial Banker and Assistant Vice President with First National Rio Grande. She has been with First National for seven years and has been in banking for 15 years. She is a recent graduate of Leadership Albuquerque and has served a variety of roles in the community, including treasurer for the Junior League of Albuquerque, treasurer of Hey Mozart, and an advisor for Chi Omega sorority.

She is a native of Albuquerque and a graduate of Sandia High School. She also enjoys working at Edible Arrangements, which she owns with her husband.

The 27-member Foundation Board of Directors includes community members from all parts of the city, including three APS students who are full voting members of the group. Ex-officio members include Superintendent Raquel Reedy, Board of Education President Dr. David Peercy, Albuquerque Teachers Federation President Ellen Bernstein and APS Executive Director of Communications Monica Armenta.
