Fall 2012 Horizon Grant Takes Lew Wallace ES Students Around the World
Students in the LWES gifted program read the Jules Verne classic and prepared a global experience to be shared by the entire school. The multi-disciplinary project-based experience included reading and discussing the novel and researching places Phineas Fogg and Passepartout visited on their 1872 journey.

Nearly 250 players helped raise more than $15,000 for the APS Education Foundation and school supplies drive.

The first-ever APS Superintendent’s Cup was a smashing success, raising nearly $14,000 for the APS Education Foundation and another $1,300 for the School Supply Drive.

Sixty-one teams, representing APS employees, administrators, partners and community leaders, played in the event at the Unviersity of New Mexico’s Championship Golf Course. In all, 244 players took on the fabled course, and while few will have Phil Mickelson shaking in his golf shoes, a good time was had by all

“It was incredible to see the support people had for this event,” said APS Superintendent Winston Brooks. “I’m very proud of what that says about our relationship with our community.”

Tournament co-director Phill Casaus said the event will continue again next year, and thanked the many Summit-Level sponsors and hole sponsors who helped make the tournament a success, as well as the staff at the Championship Course.

“You can’t believe how helpful people throughout the event really were,” Casaus said. “George Trujeque, Adam Roybal and our golf tournament committee put together a first-class event – one the Foundation is very proud to be a part of.”
