APS Supporters Buy Lots of Shoes, Raise Lots of Money for Foundation

The Ten/10 sale at Shoes on a Shoestring last weekend netted nearly $3,700 for APS academic programs.

The shoe, or should we say shoes, fit!

The first Ten/10 sale at Shoes on a Shoestring drew large crowds last weekend and earned the APS Education Foundation nearly $3,700.

Shoes on a Shoestring deemed Saturday, Dec. 1, as APS Education Foundation Day, offering a 10 percent discount to consumers and matching that discount with a contribution of 10 percent of the day’s purchases to the Foundation.

SOAS President Dave Riddle declared the promotion a huge success, saying customer traffic in both the east and west side stores increased by 50 percent compared to last year, with many customers saying they were there to support APS.

“The important thing for SOAS is that the goodwill we had hoped to create in the community seems to have come to fruition,” Riddle said.

“Our students, our teachers and our schools have great support in this community. That was evident Saturday by the crowds at the two Shoes on a Shoestring stores," said Foundation Executive Director Phill Casaus. "Not only did customers got a great deal, but they also were able to support APS academic programs, particularly in Literacy, Fine Arts, Middle and High School Activities and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).”

Casaus thanked Shoes on a Shoestring, one of the largest independent shoe retailers in the Southwest, for partnering with the Foundation to support kids and public education.

“We can’t begin to express our gratitude to great business partners like Shoes on a Shoestring who make it possible for us to inject much needed money into APS classrooms across the district," Casaus said.
