The stage is set: dozens of aspiring artists, a home-grown legend, a wealth of food and music galore: Join us for a night to remember at the third annual A is for Art! gala celebration, Sept. 28, at the Albuquerque Museum.

The event, which begins at 6 p.m., features some of the best art in the city, available in both a live and silent auction. Noted New Mexico artist Edward Gonzales has agreed to serve as the celebrity artist for A is for Art!, and has agreed to donate a painting to the live auction at the event, as well as posters.

A is for Art! includes also includes live performances from talented musicians throughout the district. In the past two years it has raised more than $60,000 for the district’s Fine Arts program and the Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit.

“Anyone who’s been to A is for Art! has been treated to a wonderful time,” said APS Superintendent Winston Brooks. “It’s heart-warming to see kids become professional artists for the first time and to see the incredible talents they display. It makes me very proud to be part of this community and this school district.”

APS art teachers also will contribute pieces to the event, which features an eclectic mix of multi-media art, photographs, paintings, jewelry and metal work. In all, about 200 pieces will be available for sale, said APS Education Foundation Executive Director Phill Casaus.

“When we started this event three years ago, we weren’t exactly sure how popular it would be,” he said. “Now we know. It’s a must-see thing.”

In addition, APS musical groups from district high schools will be featured throughout the event.

Tickets go on sale today at They are $25 for adults, $10 for students. APS employees may purchase reduced-price tickets at the Foundation office, 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE, Suite 630 East, from Sept. 10-14 for $12.
