Varsity Award

Student members of our board help determine the strategic direction of this grant, which is aimed to address a key student need in APS.

The Foundation has a 25-member Board of Directors. We are one of the few educational foundations, however, that gives two students an equal voice in how we do our work.

Toward that end, our two student members gave their peers ideas about how to improve students’ academic journeys, and we’ve tried to take that advice to heart.

In 2014-15, the Foundation will implement the Varsity Awards -- $1,000 grants to each of the district’s comprehensive high schools in order to help their counseling departments make pre-college tests and even college applications more affordable to students of limited means.

The Varsity Awards are flexible in their focus, meaning our board may identify another need as years go by.

Do you have a suggestion about how funding can help students? Please forward them to the Foundation at We’ll put it on the table for Varsity Awards of the future.
