Westwind Landscape joins the Horizon Campaign

Westwind Landscape Construction is the latest local firm to join the Albuquerque Public Schools Education Foundation’s Horizon Campaign, pledging $10,000 to the effort that will benefit fine arts, literacy, classroom mini-grant and middle/high school activities programs within the district.

“We are pleased to be in a position to help, especially in this tough financial market,” said Richard G. Brown, vice president of Westwind.

The Horizon Campaign’s goal is to raise $1 million, and has received support from a variety of companies, ranging from large multinational conglomerates to businesses like Westwind, which began 19 years ago with one truck, no equipment and a couple of employees.

Westwind’s customers are primarily public agencies, including APS. The company recently completed landscape installations at Tierra Antigua, Rudolfo Anaya and Sunset View elementary schools. It also works with the University of New Mexico, Bernalillo County, Rio Rancho Public Schools, Kirtland Air Force Base, PNM, the City of Albuquerque and others.

“Westwind is one of those companies that understands that our future is directly tied to what everyone – including small local businesses – can do to help school kids,” said Phill Casaus, executive director of the Foundation. “The folks there are APS products, and have APS kids themselves. It’s the ultimate in giving back.”

Westwind is one of several local construction firms to enlist in the campaign. Also on board are: Anchor Built Construction, Bradbury Stamm and Gerald Martin to name just a few.
