Comcast donates $100,000 in cable advertising time to Foundation

Comcast, the nation’s leading cable provider, has announced its plans to partner with the Albuquerque Public Schools Education Foundation’s Horizon Campaign, donating $100,000 worth of cable advertising time to promote the Foundation’s initiatives.

The in-kind contribution is the largest the Foundation has received thus far during the Horizon Campaign, which aims to raise $1 million in private support during the school year.

Comcast joins Intel, Don Chalmers Ford, PNM, Wells Fargo, Sandia National Labs, Anchor Built Construction, Bradbury Stamm, Gerald Martin Construction, the APS Sports Fund and the Larry H. Miller Foundation as key sponsors.

“Comcast’s commitment to the district is well-known – the Comcast Foundation donated $25,000 to the APS Foundation last spring during Comcast Cares Day,” said APS Education Foundation Executive Director Phill Casaus. “But this gift almost leaves me speechless, because it will allow us to tell many people about what we’re doing and where we intend to go.”

The Foundation will begin making plans to produce informational spots later this spring to air on Comcast’s cable networks.

“Comcast is committed to investing in our children’s education in the communities we serve. We’re extremely proud of our partnership with APS and thrilled to be able to help the Education Foundation raise awareness and money to support their goals to help APS students,” said Chris Dunkeson, Public Affairs Director for Comcast.

The Horizon Campaign is targeting four major areas for funding: fine arts, classroom teacher mini-grants, literacy and middle/high school activities. Casaus said the Foundation has raised about $350,000 in financial and in-kind donations.

“When we talk to the folks at Comcast, it’s plain that they want to be a team player in helping education and students in Albuquerque,” Casaus said. “This isn’t something they have to do. It’s something they want to do. It’s a great example of how business and education can work together to make things better in the community.”
