APS celebrates opening of new turf field at Ventana Ranch

Project also included paved walking area, shade cover

Ventana Ranch students enjoy new field.

Albuquerque Public Schools officials celebrated the opening of a new artificial turf field at Ventana Ranch Elementary this week.

The project, budgeted at $580,720, also included a paved walking area around the field and a shade structure for the adjacent kindergarten playground. An access road was also added to the east side of the campus.

“Students will be able to enjoy this field for many years to come,” said APS Supt. Raquel Reedy, noting that the field replaced a dirt field in the same area of the campus. Students and staff agreed that the artificial turf is great improvement over the dirt field.

Principal Vernadette Norman-Chavez said that students have been using the new field since last month.

The project was designed by High Mesa Consulting Group and built by Westwind Landscape Construction.
