Magnet schools differ from charter schools because they remain part of the public school system and operate under the same public school administration.
These schools exist outside of zoned school boundaries, and usually have alternative or otherwise compelling modes of instruction.

Dual Language Curriculum
The dual-language curriculum uses a 90-10 model, which means that those students starting out in kindergarten will receive 90 percent of their instruction in Spanish. By the time they get to the fourth grade they will be fully competent in Spanish and will receive 50 percent of instruction in English and 50 percent in Spanish.

nex+Gen Academy is a small community, public, APS school of choice that offers a unique project-based learning environment as part of the proven national model established by the New Tech Learning Network.
Our Mission and Vision: nex+Gen Academy will create a community of facilitators, learners, and other school personnel where learning and global citizenship are cultivated to develop future leaders.

Admissions
nex+Gen Academy is an APS High School of choice. There is no tuition required to attend. Because students come to us from various places, we require interested students to submit an application. Admission to nex+Gen Academy will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission to nex+Gen Academy shall be open to all students on a nondiscriminatory basis, without regard to race, color, national origin, creed, gender, ethnicity, behavior, ancestry, disability or academic achievement.

Schools of choice are public school that offer a unique and specialized curriculum. nex+Gen Academy is the only public school in APS and New Mexico implementing a PBL (Project-Based Learning) curriculum based on a proven national model established by the New Tech Network.

nex+Gen Academy fosters a professional collaborative learning environment and rigorous academic standards that prepare students to become self-directed learners. nex+gen Academy is a small community school with a capacity of 400 students and a unique culture of trust, respect, and responsibility. Students at nex+gen Academy are expected to demonstrate independence in learning, self-motivation and autonomy. nex+Gen Academy offers a particular emphasis on the unique academic opportunities provided by a collaborative working environment. Students are expected to build and demonstrate mastery of standards in core content through dynamic collaboration and technology integration. Technology is viewed as a professional tool to advance student work. Students are immersed in a learning environment that closely mimics the workplace with emphasis on 21st Century Skills. Assessment is based on a specific set of learning outcomes: content area standards mastery, written communication, oral communication, work ethic and collaboration.
