School Meals

School lunch menus, and school lunch price information.

Studies show that students who are eat balanced meals have increased attendance, better grades and are able to concentrate and perform at higher standards.

School nutrition professionals are committed to providing safe and nutritious meals to all children.

Albuquerque Public Schools provides healthy school breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to students. Contact APS Food and Nutrition Services for more information.

Check it out! You're welcome to visit your child's cafeteria, try a lunch, and talk to their school food service director about the nutritional profile of foods served.

Meal Prices

Here are current prices for breakfast and lunch served at schools.

Students can charge a certain number of meals to their student account. Once the charge limit has been reached, the student will be offered a complimentary meal consisting of a sandwich, fruit or vegetable, and a drink. The charge limits are:

  • Elementary School: 10
  • Middle School: 5
  • High School: 2

Parents will be notified of meal charges through our parent notification system, SchoolMessenger. Parents are encouraged to keep their phone and email information current with their school in order to receive notifications.

Paying for Meals

In order to simplify students picking up their meals, we encourage parents to set up a secure online account to manage student meals:

  • Cash
  • Check
  • Money order

Free and Reduced Meals

More than half of the families in Albuquerque Public Schools qualify for free or reduced-price school meals through the Free/reduced Lunch Program (FRLP).

Only one application needs to be filled out for each family.

Qualifying for Free Meals

If any of the following conditions apply to your student, they will most likely qualify for free meals:

  • If the student lives in a household that falls within the income limits for free meals (see application)
  • If the student lives in a household enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • If the student lives in a household enrolled in Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR)
  • If the student is a foster child (regardless of household income)

Additional Benefits of the Program

Under the meal eligibility program, schools can receive Title 1 funding that can be used for:
  • Library materials
  • School supplies
  • Field trips
  • Tutoring programs
  • Software purchases

In addition to providing free or reduced-price meals for students, qualifying for the national program offers other benefits to families and schools.
