Summer School for Elementary Schoolers

Transportation

Buses will run at K3+ and STARTSMART sites only.

Meals

Breakfast served at K3+ and STARTSMART sites only.

Lunch served at all elementary summer program sites.

  • Duranes and Eugene Field: June 8 - July 13
  • All other K3+, Summer Magnet and STARTMART Schools: June 27 - August 1

Elementary Summer School Programs

Summer Magnet and Intermediate K3+ Programs

Who can sign up? This program is for all current children in APS Elementary Schools who have scored lower than proficient on the spring and fall 2011 DBA and the winter 2012 DBA, insufficiently pass core math/reading assessments, attendance rate of 85% or below and teacher recommendation. During parent/teacher conferences parents are asked to sign a Parent Consent Form to place their child in Summer Programs 2012.

Comanche ES Cafeteria

Students in 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th grade who are recommended by their teacher as needing improvement in math or reading literacy may attend a summer Magnet School.

3rd, 4th and 5th Grade students who attend school during the regular school year at a K3+ site will attend the intervention program offered at their school (see K3+ sites listed below).

Reading Literacy Program (3rd Grade only)

Third grade students who are recommended by their school as needing improvement in either reading or math will attend a specialized Reading Literacy Program. STARTSMART Schools

Incoming Kindergarten and 1st grade students only to the school sites listed below can attend a literacy program designed to better prepare Kindergartener for school. They will receive an extra 25 days of school with this program. Parents interested in this program must contact the Principal of their school to register.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Summer School

The APS Language and Cultural Equity Department provides English as a Second Language (ESL) summer programs. Students will register at their home school through May 11, 2012.

Elementary ESL will take place from June 27 to August 1. Eligible ESL students will receive instruction from a state-certified ESL teacher. Eligible students will develop English language vocabulary along with English literacy. There are no fees charged for the summer ESL programs.
