Become an AVID Tutor

Tutoring positions are available for professionals or college students.

A special classroom program continues to expand in Albuquerque Public Schools and it needs community participation. There’s plenty of room for you, if you’ve got a couple of hours a week available to spend with middle or high school students.

The AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program needs tutors. Now in its fourth year in APS, AVID has expanded to 28 middle and high schools, offering an extra boost to students “in the middle” to prepare them for college.

Tutoring positions are available for a little pocket money, or for college students who want to earn some education course credit. For more information about becoming an AVID tutor, contact Matt Kraus at APS at 884-9582 ext. 80456 or Kraus_m@aps.edu.

AVID is a class for students who are capable of completing a college-prep path, but need extra support. This course helps students prepare for college and pushes them to take harder, more rigorous classes in high school. Nearly 2,000 APS students participate in the program.
