General PTA Meeting – September 12, 2005

The meeting was brought to order by current Vice President, Cindy Davis.  It was brought to our attention that the current President, Annette Rodden, would not be able to fulfill her duties as President for the current year.  A nomination was made for new officers as follows:  President—Cindy Davis; Vice President—Davine Sanchez.  A motion was made, seconded, and passed.  Our new President is now Cindy Davis and our new Vice President is Davine Sanchez.

Treasurer, Jeanne Ronquillo, presented the budget with was voted on and passed after discussion and explanation of detailed budget items.  We were please to be able to purchase from last years budget a sun shade (which was also paid in part by a grant), the new marquee, five picnic tables and benches, crusher fine and rock around the picnic tables and portables, buses for field trips and teacher classroom supplies.  All of this was made possible from the fall fundraiser with Cherrydale Farms and Jog-A-Thon, our spring fundraiser.  It was explained to our new parents and members that all funds raised at both bookfairs go directly to the Library to help in purchasing new books and supplies.

Up coming events:

  1. Kathy Cole explained about the Bookfair which goes on all week in the gym September 26th-October 2nd.  The hours of the bookfair are 9:00-4:00 daily, with the exception of Wednesday when they will close at 1:00 and re-open at 6:00 for Open House.  Volunteers are needed for each day, including Wednesday evening.
  2. Open House is Wednesday, September 28th, from 6:00-7:30.  We will be serving pizza and drinks and will need volunteers to help set up, serve and clean up.
  3. Picture day is Tuesday, October 4th.  Volunteers are needed to help with each camera to make sure that the students are groomed and ready for pictures.
  4. Our Fall fundraiser with Cherrydale Farms kick off date is Thursday, October 6th.  Volunteers are needed each day to collect and check orders and to help count money for daily deposits.
  5. Amy Keller spoke about the blood drive that will be held here on December 1st.  This is included in our host of Community Service projects that we are required to do.

It was brought to our attention by a parent that it would be wonderful if we could possibly organize a Garden Club to help keep the weeds pulled in the front planter boxes.  This was agreed on by the group and will be followed up on.  Meg Stearns added to this by reporting that grade levels have signed up to help with the “Beautification Project” on the playground and front grounds.  She also gave an updated report on the turf which will go in on the soccer area.  It was suggested that we move the old marquee.  Meg mentioned that we should move it over by the service road and put a sight up stating that the area is for staff parking only (or something of that nature).

Principal George Jackson gave us an update on how things were going for this year’s ‘start-up’.  He feels that we have a wonderful staff.  We are currently working on getting new math and reading programs.  He talked about the number of students here at Petroglyph and explained that we will need to move a 1st grade teacher to teach Kindergarten, as our 1st grade numbers are lower that what was first anticipated.  He then introduced our new Vice Principal, Rhonda Vendetti, who moved here from Colorado this summer.

Motion was made and passed to adjourn the meeting.  Our next PTA meeting will be Monday, October 3rd, at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Secretary,

Annette Sloggett
