General PTA Meeting --- December 5. 2005

The meeting was called to order by President, Cindy Davis.

Minutes for November meeting were read and approved.

Mr. Jackson talked about our boundary issues and what has happened since the public meetings.  He explained that the district has decided to look into some of the different ideas and suggestions that have been presented.  A “task force” will be formed.  Meetings will be open to the public, but that the committee members are to be discussing the suggestions made by parents.  We are asking that everyone be kind, do not attack the schools and the district.  He explained what a task force is and that the district has put the decision on the shoulders of the task force.

Treasures report:  It was reported that we made $11,976.33 from our sales.

Old business:  The Radar Awning Company has come out and re-aligned the sun shade that they installed for us last spring.  A motion was made and passed to have Radar Awning come and give a quote for a second shade structure.

New Business:  It has been requested that we help out in replacing items for the school cooking cart that each classroom has access to.  Items needed are utensils, cookie sheets, pots & pans, measuring tools, a hot plate, towels, hot pads, basically anything that you would normally use in your own kitchen when cooking food items.  We will be asking that a memo be put in the Macaw to ask for donations to help out with this project.  Donations may be brought to the office and given to Annette.

Other new business:  A request for a new kiln in the work room.  It was decided that we table this item until we find out from the district Maintenance and Operations to see if ours can actually be repaired or not.  Sarita, our art teacher, has offered to help raise additional funds to help pay for a new one if we need this.

Discussion was brought up about the new field trip rulings.  APS is not allowing anyone to drive students on a field trip unless they have been finger printed and completed a back ground check through the district.  Any one who wishes to do this may go to the district office and complete the process with them for a fee of $35.00.  Otherwise, no field trips will be taken unless they are on a bus.  Mrs. Trost talked about the advantage of using the city transportation system.  The trip is free if you sign up through “Kids in Motion”, if not it is .35 per child to ride the city bus.

The Big Show has been scheduled for Monday, the 12th.  We need volunteers to come and help watch as kids play on the inflated items that are brought in.  There will be face painting, jump for George (dollar bills), shooting of large nerf arrows at Mr. Jackson, along with the money machine.

Next meeting is the 2nd Monday, January 9, 2006 at 7:00.  Metting was adjourned.

Secretary,

Annette Sloggett
