General PTA Meeting (approx. 13 in attendance)

November 1, 2004

 

Cindy Davis

·         called the meeting to order

Mr. Jackson

·         announced the Student Council had its elections during the past week; the kids ran positive campaigns

·         congratulated the following winners of offices:  President, Katie Kilbane; V.P., Shelby Acosta; Sec. Jared Maestas; Treas. Katie Heim; Announcers, James Walker (full year term) and Ashley Ortiz/Emily Cordova (half-year terms)

·         reported that the student body registered to vote for school elections Th. 10/28 and Fr. 10/29; those registered were able to vote 11/1; results were that Pres. Bush took 60% of vote, John Kerry took 36%, and Ralph Nader took 4%

·         announced Student Council will hold its annual Food Drive Nov. 8th - 12th, to benefit the Roadrunner Food Bank; parents should send non-perishable food items to school with their children during this week

Cindy Davis (Treasurer’s Report in lieu of Heather Davis)

·         reported the PTA bank balance is $38,941.95 (monies that we owe Cherrydale have NOT be paid out yet)

·         mentioned Ms. Fenton (librarian) still has $1,200 remaining from Book Fair profits

·         noted popcorn has sold very well ($43 - $60/week at $0.25/bag)

·         announced that Cherrydale brought in approx. $33,172.63, with orders still trickling in; our profit is roughly 45%, minus 2% we have to pay for prizes for sellers (about $15,000 profit)

·         reported that PTA has sold about $1,550.00 of the $3,353.00 in new Petroglyph t-shirts; we need to sell 138 more shirts to break even

·         mentioned that, due to Cherrydale profit, PTA will be able to purchase a new marquee for the school

Kathy Cole

·         reminded that t-shirts are selling $14/adult and $12/child; long-sleeve versions are available $17/adult and $15/child and will be ordered as soon as 12 people express interest

Amy Keller

·         encouraged members to start thinking about upcoming PTA events; volunteers, especially chairpersons, are desperately needed for the following (call Amy at 897-5921 if you are able to help): 

Teacher Appreciation Snacks (need 4-5 people to provide snacks for teachers and staff during each day of Parent-Teacher conference week 11/18-11/24)

BCCPTA Clothing Bank (need people to drive students to the clothing bank, need drivers to take unclaimed lost-and-found items to the bank, need Chair to work on proposed clothing drive for Dec. [?])

Join-A-School Chairperson (need a liaison to work with Petroglyph’s business partners to secure financial and volunteer support for school projects; write small grant applications)

Spring 2005 Jog-a-thon Chairperson (need person to coordinate Jog-a-thon activities and organize existing volunteers for the event)

Macaw Yearbook Chairperson (need person to facilitate the yearbook-development process and organize volunteer efforts to create the yearbook using existing computer software)

Cindy Davis

·         announced that Staples (office supplies superstore) is offering a new way for schools to earn money through collection and recycling of ink and toner cartridges; could be a service and fundraising project for Petroglyph; a coordinator for this project is needed

·         clarified the procedure for reimbursements of teachers for field-trip bus payments

Kathy Vargas

·         requested more volunteers to sell popcorn on the 4th and 5th Tuesday of each month (need 3 and 2 people, respectively); volunteers begin working at 12:30 p.m. and are finished by the end of school (sales run during recess from 2:15 - 3:00)

Mr. Jackson

·         reminded attendees to VOTE and noted that school bond issues are on the back of the ballot (funds for kindergarten portables, school & library materials)
