General PTA Meeting --- November 7, 2005

Meeting was called to order by President, Cindy Davis.

Two representatives from Real Turf, James and Eric, were the program to talk about our new turf and answer any questions that we might have.  Real Turf will make a $50.00 donation to our PTA if anyone makes a recommendation to either a residential or business, and they in turn tell them that they were recommended by us.  Most concerning questions answered were:

Will it get hot in the heat of the summer?  No

Can it be repaired if it were to get vandalized?  Yes

What is the life expectancy of this turf?  25 years

Treasurers Report:  Jeanne Ronquillo is incapacitated due to back surgery.  Tracy Cadigan volunteered to help out during this time.  A motion was made and passed to accept Tracy’s assistance. Our students sold $27,537.20 of product.  Our profit is 45%, which is approximately $11,976.33.  We also have received a gracious donation from the Cadigan family from their campaign foundation.    We are looking for suggestions for how we will improve our school with our earnings from the Fall fund raiser.

Some requests that have already been made are:

Help get additional items for a particular classroom.  It was suggested that we table the request until the teacher has the opportunity to seek donations from our parents to help out.  Some of the items that the classroom is seeking are; dress up clothing, CD’s, toy grocery cart, etc.  We will ask that the teacher make a list and possibly put it in the classroom news letter and even the weekly Macaw.

Could we possibly help in replacing items for the “cooking cart”.  This is a cart which contains kitchen items to assist classrooms when they are doing a cooking project.  Over the years items have worn out and simply need to be replaced.

School supplies for students of families cannot afford to buy everything that is requested in the classrooms.  It was suggested that possibly at the end of the year, we ask teachers to collect extra supplies to hold on to, and then make a plan to start out the year using some of these supplies and we can possible budget in and add to help in the need.

Along with these requests, we had some ideas brought up to help raise more money through simple fund raisers.  Meg Stearns suggested that we sell wrist bands that say Petroglyph.  With the popularity of the many different wrist bands out there now, this might be a simple way to raise some extra money.  We could order in the school colors, purple and teal, and even order some that have both colors.  It was also suggested that we check into Smith’s Grocery to see what they are offering to our community schools to help raise money in different ways that by using their discount card.

Ramona Jenkins has volunteered to head up the committee for snacks during Parent-Teacher conferences, whish is Thursday and Friday, November 17th and 18th.  We will again have volunteers bring in food for the teachers and staff for them to have on their brakes.

Our blood drive is Thursday, December 1.  The United Blood Services will bring in 2 busses and will accept donors from 12:00 until 5:00.  Amy Keller is working with Nancy Bordenave to get volunteers and help with this scheduling.

In our school updates, Mrs. Vendetti, our Vice Principal, gave us great news that we actually DID meet AYP for 2004-2005 school year.  She explained how the scores were re-examined and recalculated.

Meeting was adjourned.  Our next meeting is Monday, December 05, 2005, at 7:00 p.m.  See you then.

Secretary,

Annette Sloggett
