Petroglyph Elementary

General PTA Meeting – November 6, 2006

 

PTA President Davine Sanchez conducted the meeting.  Ten individuals were present at the meeting.

 

The Sally Foster fundraiser made $17,149 and Petroglyph will get half.  Sally Foster was difficult to work with and Petroglyph will not be using them next year.  We will be having the Sally Foster cookie dough fundraiser in the spring.

 

The Book Fair did better than last year by approximately $300.  Of the money raised, Petroglyph can take 25% in cash or 50% in books.

 

The Winter Carnival will be held February 3, 2007, from 1:00-3:00pm.  The money raised from ticket sales will go to each class.  Nancy Leffler may have some ideas regarding the carnival and booths.

 

A Room Parent meeting will be held on November 14, 2006, to discuss the carnival.  It was suggested that we advertise the carnival at the preschools in our area.  PTA will provide the prizes for the carnival. 

 

A Blood Drive will be held December 1, 2006.  They will provide two blood drive mobiles from 12:00-5:00pm.  Petroglyph is 2nd in the city for blood donations.  We need volunteers at the registration table.

 

Ten gift baskets will be provided by Petroglyph for needing families at our school.  Gina Martinez will advertise in the Macaw for donations.  We will provide donations for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  The Room Parents could be utilized to help with donations.  PTA will set up a Giving Tree to obtain toys & clothes.  The giving tree will be advertised in the Macaw.

 

We need pictures for the yearbook.  Please provide pictures on a CD.

 

Join-a-School was discussed.  It is a program organized by APS to seek out relationships with schools and the community.

 

Assistant Principal Francesca VerPloegh discussed the new reading program at Petroglyph.  Next year a new math program will be adapted at Petroglyph, and it the cost is over $70,000 for the new program.  Teachers will vote after Christmas to select the new math program.  PTA will give $10,000 to help provide books for the new programs ($5000 from the fall fundraiser and $5000 from the spring fundraiser).

 

Kathy Vargas will sell popcorn on Election Day.  Security issues regarding Election Day were discussed.  Mr. Jackson & Ms. VerPloegh will be keeping an eye on all the extra visitors at Petroglyph on Election Day.

 

Meeting was adjourned.  The next PTA meeting is scheduled for January 8, 2007 at 4:00pm.
