Petroglyph Elementary
General PTA Meeting – January 22, 2007
PTA President Davine Sanchez conducted the meeting, the meeting was held at 4:00pm in the school library. Ten individuals were present at the meeting.
Minutes from the November meeting were read.
PTA provided 12 hams for the food baskets for needy families, as well other items they received from the Road Runner Food Bank donations.
The Giving Tree was a huge success. PTA was able to provide 40 coats, hats, gloves, gift cards, and a toy to 40 needy students at Petroglyph. One student received a bike that was donated.
The Winter Carnival will be held February 3 from 1:00-3:00pm. A planning meeting was held this morning and over 25 people attended the meeting. Prizes are still needed. PTA will be providing the prizes but we are still looking for donated prizes. Tickets will be sold for .25$. Volunteers are needed to sell tickets. There will be several baskets for raffle that will be located by the ticket sales table.
There is a poster contest for the Winter Carnival. One student in each class can win $5 in carnival tickets.
There are two grants available under the Join-A-School grant ($500 & $1000). Creative ideas are needed on how we could spend the grant money. There is a grant writing workshop if anyone is interested. Meg Stearns suggested that anyone that is interested in writing the grants look at the grants that she has already written. One suggestion on the use of the grant money would be to support a Teacher of the Month program, to motivate teachers to participate in PTA.
Snacks are needed for the teachers for the Parent/Teacher conferences February 22 & 23, 2007. Please sign up to bring something.
March 5-19, 2007 will be the Spring Fundraiser, Sally Foster Cookie Dough. The orders will be delivered on April 18, 2007.
Treasurer, Stacey Walker, provided the following budget information:
Book Fair $7,944
Open House $400
Sally Foster $9,116
Pictures $1,653
We will be deciding on a new fundraiser for next year.
Kathy Cole & Cindy Davis will be running the Spring Book Fair, but it will be their last time. Volunteers are needed who are interested in taking over this project.
Gina Martinez discussed the upcoming Career Fair that will be held February 1 & 2, 2007. She is looking for presenters that will make 15 minute presentations to the 4th & 5th graders from 2:00-3:00pm.
Cindy Davis provided an update on the yearbook. They are trying to find a new printer, so we can have a later deadline for submitting the pictures for the yearbook. The deadline with the old printer was January, and that date has passed. A later deadline will help us include more pictures.
Kathy Vargas needs volunteers to sell popcorn.
Meeting was adjourned. The next PTA meeting is scheduled for March 5, 2007 at 4:00pm in the library.
Secretary,
Kelly Martin
