SUPPLIES, TEXTBOOKS, and SPOs

When ordering supplies, textbooks or SPOs, please use the proper form that is included as a template in your staff notebook. Make a copy of your order and give it to Cathy for processing. She will enter the data and return a sheet to you indicating what has been ordered. When your order arrives, it has to be received by Cathy before it can be distributed to you. If you use an SPO, please save the receipt for Cathy so that she can enter the items in your computer. Do not buy an item with your own money and ask the school to reimburse you; by law, we can’t.
Supplies for the Classroom
Each teacher is given a set amount to spend. Please do not exceed this amount. The principal will tell the staff what the amounts are at the beginning of the year. It is best to order most of your supplies at the beginning of the year. If you need special items begin to let your class know what is needed. Many parents are willing to help financially or in obtaining products if they know in advance. Send home a list periodically of student refills that are needed. It is always a good idea to send home a supply refill list before Winter Break so parents can use when purchasing gifts.
Textbooks
Textbooks are generally ordered in the spring for the following year. Textbook orders are put together by grade level. Classroom teachers will need to meet to decide what individual grade level items are needed. Additionally, input in sought from classroom teachers as to what reading series, social studies, math books are going to be purchased. It is a good idea to keep a "wish list" of textbooks items together. The school is sometimes notified that money must be spent quickly and in that case the early bird gets the worm! Keep the catalog if you see something interesting. If you go to a workshop that has materials available put it in your wish list file. Textbooks materials can include books, computer programs, math manipulatives, music and other items. It cannot include supply materials, e.g., bulletin board materials, pencils, paper and such.
SPOs
SPOs can be written to purchase items from supply accounts
and direct purchase textbook. Make sure of what type of account you
are using. Many accounts need a justification as to why and how this
purchase will aid in teaching literacy, 4Blocks, Bilingual, etc.
You must bring the receipt back to the school and turn in within 24 hours
of the purchase. If you do not the SPO will not be processed and
you will be responsible for the cost of the items.
