Multi-Media Equipment

Lavaland has multi-media equipment such as TVs, VCRs, Camcorders, Digital Cameras, and Scanners. Many items are available for checkout by Lavaland staff. Please do not send students for equipment due to safety and monetary issues.  Professional Development sessions on the use of equipment and integration with lesson plans will be held by the technology coordinator.  Due to the nature of working and the expense of multi-media equipment you will need training on proper use before checking out equipment.

TV/VCRS

Classrooms in the barracks have their own tv/vcrs or share one with the room next door. Please do not move these tvs out of the barracks due to safety issues.

Classrooms in the main building and patio area have a tv/vcrs to share located in the building and the teachers’ lounge.

DO NOT ALLOW STUDENTS TO MOVE EQUIPMENT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. TVs are not locked down and can fall easily. Straps give a false sense of protection. Carts are intended to be moved by adults only. If you need assistance please ask for help.

CAMCORDERS

Lavaland has two camcorders that are VHS-C. These record on a small tape (VHS-C) and use an adapter in the vcr. These are available in the media center.

Lavaland also has two digital camcorders. These use a DV tape and the camcorder must be directly hooked up to the tv for playback. This equipment can also be hooked up to some computers for editing and playback.

DIGITAL CAMERAS

Lavaland has several digital cameras for classroom use.  We are currently using the Sony digital cameras.  These require additional software on your computer.  These cameras avoid the need to develop film.  Your technology coordinator will hold training sessions on how to use and integrate digital cameras in the classroom.

SCANNERS

Lavaland has several scanners. You may check out the scanner from the media center. Scanners require software to operate properly with your computer. Please see the tech coordinator for assistance.
