The Lavaland Book Room is located in the Media Center. Multiple copies of various titles are available for checkout by Staff to use in the classroom. Books have been barcoded and will be checked out to the teacher. Books are in the process of being added daily to the Athena system so they will show up in the computer data base.

Reading levels have been added to the system to the best of our ability. Reading levels vary greatly according to the system used. There does not appear to be any exact way to determine the reading level.

Classroom teachers have been provided with book bags to help transport the books to and from classrooms. Please use these book bags to help the books to last. Often when students carry books back to the library, they drop the books or books are returned with torn covers and such. The library staff can repair the books to some degree but it is not cost effect to repair all torn paperbacks.

If a teacher has multiple copies of a book and is willing to share that book, please send it to the library. The library staff will enter the book on the Athena computer data base and barcode the book. We attempt to do this quickly but please realize this work is done in addition to the normal library duties.

Inservice sessions are run that will help you to find out which books are in the Book Room and how to use the Athena.  Please plan on attending.  We try to make it fun!
