Hodgin Elementary School

2009-2010

Dear Families,

Welcome to Hodgin and the 2009-2010 school year.  Our theme this year is Building Amazing Minds.  In an effort to accomplish this goal, our Hodgin staff is dedicated to delivering quality education.  Our school Educational Plan for Student Success (EPSS) focuses on math, reading, and parent involvement.  Although we did not meet adequate yearly progress (AYP) in 2008-2009 in the area of math, we were successful in the area of reading.  We are looking at our rating as an opportunity to challenge ourselves and to show improvement.  Our highly qualified staff will work diligently with the children to set strategic goals and continue to assess their progress.  You can support your child’s education by assuring that your child is in school with completed homework every day.

At registration, each child will receive a school calendar as part of the registration materials.  These items contain useful information about start and dismissal times, schedules, parent conferences and school policies and procedures.  School begins on August 20th for grades 1 through 5.  Kindergarten begins

on August 24th.  Our school hours are 8:00 a.m. - 2:20 p.m., Monday

–Friday.  Regular attendance is crucial.  The state mandates each

school to have a strong attendance rate.  A student can miss no more

than 10 days of school per year, excused or unexcused.  Research

shows that regular school attendance creates students that are more

academically and socially successful.  Vacations should be planned

when school is not in session.

Students can participate in the free breakfast program each morning

from 7:30-7:57 a.m. in our cafeteria.  We are recipients of a New

Mexico state grant, therefore all Hodgin students are eligible for this

healthy start to the school day.  Part of the registration process also

includes completing information for free and reduced lunch.  We encourage you to enroll in this opportunity for your child.

Hodgin’s dress code is consistent with the Albuquerque Public Schools district policy and the Del Norte Cluster Schools.  We ask that all students dress in a manner that shows respect for the learning environment.  The dress code is outlined in the school calendar information.

Please feel free to join and participate in our Parent Faculty Club activities.  Their goal is to enrich our students’ education through volunteer services, fundraisers for field trips, and campus beautification.

We hope that your child will enjoy his time at Hodgin, both educationally and socially.  Your thoughts and comments are important to us.  Hodgin is your school and together we can make a difference
