DETERMINING NEED

After testing is completed, the Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) will meet to determine eligibility. This team can be composed of, but not limited to the following:

     Administrator/designee*
     Evaluation specialist
     Teacher of the gifted*
     General education teacher*
Parents, must be invited. (See appendices for form)
     Student, if appropriate

If student has factors, someone knowledgeable about how these factors affect student performance.

The team considers all information from the testing including any special factors. Once determination of eligibility is made, the MDT forwards information to an IEP team who determines if the student has a need for services. Membership of the IEP team should include those above whenever possible.

The IEP Team considers current classroom placement and determines whether or not the student’s needs can be met within general and/or current special education classroom setting. Modifications to the current curriculum are also considered. If it is determined that the student’s needs cannot be met within the current educational program, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed. It is strongly recommended that the student be included in the development of his/her IEP.
