Independent Study

Standards

Research: The student conducts research, synthesizes findings, and develops conclusions.  Student collects data of significant factual information.  The student will differentiate between, locate, and use primary and secondary sources (e.g. computer software, interviews, biographies, oral histories, print, visual material, artifacts) to acquire information.

Reading Analysis:  Student critiques significant issues on selected topic of research

Receptive Language:  Student demonstrates, analyzes, evaluates, and reflects upon the skills and processes introduced through a variety of sources.

Expressive Language: Speaking:  The student speaks effectively for different audiences and purposes (e.g. to describe, express, explain, persuade, and analyze) using appropriate speaking strategies and conventions.


Assessment / Product or Culminating Activity

Assessment:  Rubrics developed by facilitator; peer evaluation by discussion and rubric;  self-evaluation in discussion with facilitator.

Culminating Activity: Student presentation of research results; oral presentation to an appropriate audience and/or written product.
