Named after the renowned Albuquerque
artist, Edward Gonzales Elementary opened its doors in August of
2004. In addition to being a visually beautiful site, Edward Gonzales
Elementary is the first energy-efficient school built by the Albuquerque
Public Schools.
Located on the City of Albuquerque's
burgeoning west side, the school was originally built to service
just over 900 students. During August, enrollment reached about
1300 before boundary adjustments and agreements were put in place.
Currently, the population is just under 1200, with 1300 students
and additional portable classrooms expected for the next academic
year.
