Third Grade
Homework is important for children because it reinforces and expands skills and concepts introduced in class. There is not enough time in school for each child to master the many academic areas we cover. I hope that you, the parents, will support and monitor the homework that your child brings home. It’s really a good way for you to be aware of what content areas are being presented in school, and how your child is progressing.
Each Friday your child will bring home his/her agenda. In it each evening will be the homework assignments for that evening. Most will be due the next day; however, some may be long-term assignments. These will have the date they will be due. Most evenings will include a spelling assignment, nightly reading for 15 minutes, and either a writing or a math assignment.
Homework is always expected to be on time, but will be accepted until the end of the week it was due. Unless your child has been absent, homework will not be accepted after Friday. If your child is ill, please do not feel that you need to deliver homework to school. When your child returns to school, they can bring the homework.
Another possible source of homework is unfinished class work. Please check folders on Friday for work that says “Complete and Return” or any work included in the agenda during the week. This is also a good opportunity to talk with your child about why class work is not being completed in school.
Each day that all homework is completed and turned in on time, your child will receive a sticker for a chart on his/her desk. When the chart is full, a special award will be given.
This will make more sense as we get into the system. If you have questions or concerns, please call me at school (884-5275), or stop by so we can talk about it!
Thanks for your support of this important component of third grade!
