Whales

Mrs. Flynn's 5th grade class did a unit studying ocean life. The students learned about the food chain, how oil spills affect oceans, and many other exciting facts. Each of the students conducted a research project an ocean animal and presented it to the class. The room was also decorated with many interesting posters and displays of ocean creatures.

At the end of the unit, the students went out into the schoool parking lot and drew a giant whale with chalk. When the students could actually see the size of the whale, it was very impressive. The students had to measure out the dimensions of the drawing and then invited some of the first grade classes to come share in the project.

The following are some pictures of Mrs. Flynn's 5th graders drawing the whale along with 1st graders.

After drawing the whale, the two classes lined up to see how long it was compared to them. It took both classes to reach from end to end.
