Trix Rabbit Visits Chelwood
Chelwood was honored with a very special assembly in September. We were notified
by General Mills’ National Headquarters that we were one of the top schools in the
nation for the Box Tops For Education Program during the 1997-1998 school year.
In the state of New Mexico, we were the # 1 school with the most Box Tops turned
in. As a result, the Lieutenant Governor, Walter Bradley, paid a visit to our school.
He was joined by representatives of General Mills who came from the Albuquerque
Plant as well as the National Headquarters in Minnesota. The students enjoyed
these speakers, but really became excited when the special guest appeared. It was
none other than the Trix Rabbit! He quickly became the star of the show.
As a result of being the top school last year, Chelwood received a 500 Box Tops
Bonus to start off the year and was given a New Mexico State Flag by the
Lieutenant Governor. A film clip was also shot and Chelwood will be used as part of
their national campaign to challenge other schools to try to match our
accomplishment. The Channel 13 and Channel 7 News stations were present at the
assembly and both did a section on the program during their nightly news.
Chelwood was proud to be recognized in this way and we want to continue to be the
top school every year. So keep those Box Tops
coming in and lets keep Chelwood as one of the best schools in the nation!
Below are some pictures from this special day.
