The whole concept of an academy which
would encompass Sixth, Seventh and Eighth grade at an elementary school
site had its beginning through the Research and advocacy of the Barcelona
community and parents five years ago.
A study group through a learning community
grant was the vehicle for our parent study groups who were actively involved
in the research and presentations which were made to the superintendent
and his assistants. The Barcelona parents who were involved in the
Academy movement were driven by a strong desire to have their students
continue with a strong academic emphasis that their children had experienced
through our SFA research based literacy and numeracy programs.
