    Theme:

    Teacher Preparation: Questions to ask
    Yourself:

    1. Is this topic relevant to the students? If not,
how can I make it relevant?

    2. How can I relate this topic to the prior
knowledge of my students?  What background
knowledge do I need to give?  How can I make
    connections?
(brainstorming: What do they know? What do they want to know?)

    3. What are the key concepts I want to teach
    them?

    4. What is the key vocabulary? (teach in
context/then make a list with simple
    vocabulary definitions and/or illustrations)

    5. What materials/resources do I need?

    6. What do I need to do to make this unit
    comprehensible before, during, and after?
    (visuals, modifications, strategies)

    7. What hands-on activities will I use?
    (Include cooperative activities and reading
    strategies, if appropriate)

    8. How will I evaluate this unit?
