SRM DRESS CODE

Albuquerque Public School's Board of Education has approved a policy which states that starting with the 1999-2000 school year, at all West Mesa Cluster Elementary Schools, except for Mary Ann Binford, Truman, John Adams and Jimmy Carter Middle Schools, students will be required to wear standard uniform dress.  All guidelines, which have been adopted for the Albuquerque Public Schools and for the West Mesa Cluster Schools, are still in effect and are included where appropriate in the itemized lists which follow.

 

The uniform dress policy will apply:

To all students in these schools except where there is specific instructional, safety, religious, or medical reasons.

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

 NO gang-related clothing.

 NO chains or spiked jewelry.

 NO sunglasses, hair nets, hats          or bandanas.

 No accessories which promote negative behaviors (profanity, violence, sex, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, bigotry, disrespect, or gangs) or that is highly distractive, disruptive, or immodest.  Hats may be worn on the playground, but not inside buildings.

 

PANTS (Boys and Girls)

Solid Colors: black, khaki (tan) , navy

 Straight-legged, regular cut
 Pleated or plain front

 Fitted at the waist

 Black, brown, navy belt, no excess length hanging down (grade 3 & up)

 Students grade 2 and under may wear pants with an elastic waistband

 Neither baggy or tight

 No extra wide legs or bell-bottom pants

 NO dropped crotch

 NO saggy pants

 NO denim (jeans) or corduroy

 NO sweat or jogging pants

 NO outside pockets (cargo pants)

 NO overalls

 

SHORTS (Boys and Girls)

Solid Colors: black, khaki (tan), navy

 NO longer than the knee

 NO short overalls

 NO shorter than two inches above knee

 

SKIRTS OR JUMPERS (Girls)

Solid Colors:  black, khaki, navy

 Pleated or straight skirt or skort

 NO wrap skirts

 NO shorter than 2 inches above knee

 

SHIRTS/BLOUSES (Boys and Girls)

Solid Colors:  burgundy, light blue, navy blue, or white

 worn tucked into pants, shorts, skirts

 collared with buttons or turtleneck

 short/long sleeves, no sleeveless

 NO transparent or sheer materials

 NO logos, designs/trimmed collars

 NO tank tops or bare midriffs

 

SWEATSHIRTS/SWEATERS/ VESTS (Boys and Girls)

Solid Colors: burgundy, light blue, navy blue, white

 worn over a legal shirt

 do not wear tucked into pants

 NO hoods

 NO logos

 

JACKETS (Boys and Girls)

 NO professional team jacket except  for NM professional and NM college teams

 NO logos
