         Uniform Policy:

All children are expected to wear the appropriate school uniform daily.
*Pants: Solid colors: black, khaki(tan), navy blue.  Straight legged regular cut.  Fitted at waist.  Kindergarten through second grade may wear elastic waistband. No extra wide legs, bell bottoms, or dropped crotch. No denim or corduroy. No cargo  pants (pockets on leg at knee) or overalls.
*Shorts: Same guidelines as pants. No longer than the knee or shorter than two inches above the knee.
Skirts or Jumpers:  Same colors as pants and shorts.  May be pleated or straight skirt or skort.  Same length guidelines as shorts.
*Shirts:  Solid colors: burgundy, light blue, navy blue or white.  Shirts must be tucked in.  Shirts must have collars or may be a turtle neck (mock or regular).  Sleeveless shirts are not permitted.  No logo shirts other that SRM logos.  No tank tops or bare midriffs.
*Sweatshirts/Sweaters/Vests:  Same color guidelines as shirts.  Must be worn over legal shirt and not alone.  No hoods or logos other that SRM logos.

These are the basic guidelines.  If you need an extensive list, please ask your child's classroom teacher or the office staff and they will be happy to give you one.

If your family is having a difficult time purchasing uniform items, or circumstances are interfering with your child wearing a uniform daily, talk to your child's teacher or call the school and ask to talk to the school counselor.
There are different ways that the school may be able to assist you and your family.

Mrs. Maria Barraza-Martinez
Assistant Principal:
Mr. Raymond Arsenault

Make sure to call in all absences!
If your family has an emergency and/or special reason that your child will miss school for consecutive days, make sure to talk to the classroom teacher.  It's always a good idea to get a note from your child's doctor if he/she has or will miss school.  We also have a school counselor and social worker to assist families with extenuating circumstances.

Inclement Weather or School EmercencyPolicies:

Here in Albuquerque the weather has a mind of it's own!  If at any given time the weather does look questionable, keep a close eye on the local forecast- either on the television or on the radio.  Please do not call the school and/or the APS district office since this ties up the phone lines.  APS rarely makes a weather based decision before 6:00 am on a school day. Also, listen closely since school delays or cancellations may only affect the APS mountain schools.
*2-hour delay= school will start 2 hours later than normally.  So, school will start at 9:47am instead of 7:47 am..  The bus will pick your child up 2 hours later than the regular pick up time.  Please keep in mind that the delay affects school staff also.
*cancellation= If the district calls for cancellation, it simply means that the schools will be closed on that day.  Please keep in mind that canceled days may have to be made up.  Also, the office and the entire school will not be open on a canceled school day.

School Emergencies:
While the chances of serious emergencies at school are unlikely, we have an action plan to alert staff so that the children are taken out of danger or simply kept safe.
Fire: We  practice monthly fire drills so that the children know what to do in the event of a fire.  All students on campus walk out to the field by the gym where teachers take attendance to ensure that all children are accounted for.
Other Emergencies (chemical spills,
power outagaes, etc.):
We have a secured code word that is passed onto staff members.  We are all trained to follow specific procedures.

Your children's safety as well as your assurance that your children are in a safe environment is our goal.

Please take time to discuss school and bus safety rules with your child.  Playground accidents can happen in a blink of an eye!  It is so important that your child knows that you are taking an active role in his/her school activities!
