This project is taken from Digital
Desert Library and modified to use both internet sites and Nature Encyclopedias.
Students begin by exploring Eyewitness Encyclopedia of Nature CD and Wide
World of Animals CD, learning how to use the index and habitat viewers.
They then do some searching in Yahooligans Animal sites and learn how to
copy a picture off the internet.
After a demonstration and example of formula poetry,
the next step is to choose an animal and do research to fill out an information
sheet. The information sheet is then used to construct their poem and finally
a favorite picture is found and pasted onto their poem.
For this project students visit Drippy the Rain Drop and
follow him on his journey from lakes and rivers to clouds and rain. The
water cycle can also be viewed on the Eyewitness Encyclopedia of Nature.
To complete the project, students use Kid Pix to create their own slide shows
of the water cycle.
