Third Grade

Fin and Feather / Classifying Living Things
Animal Plant Poem

This project is taken from Digital Desert Library and modified to use both internet sites and Nature Encyclopedias. Students begin by exploring Eyewitness Encyclopedia of Nature CD and Wide World of Animals CD, learning how to use the index and habitat viewers. They then do some searching in Yahooligans Animal sites and learn how to copy a picture off the internet.
After a demonstration and example of formula poetry, the next step is to choose an animal and do research to fill out an information sheet. The information sheet is then used to construct their poem and finally a favorite picture is found and pasted onto their poem.
