Petroglyph Elementary

General PTA Meeting – November 12, 2007

The meeting was brought to order by PTA President, Davine Sanchez.  The meeting was held at 4:00 pm in the teachers lounge.  Approximately 25 individuals were present at the meeting.

Lee Ann Martinez, the school nurse, discussed the “School Asthma Team” and showed a short video.  She also discussed “Open Airways” which is an asthma education program for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.  It is important that teachers, parents, and students work together to control asthma.

The minutes for the September 10, 2007, General PTA meeting were read.

Tracey Witte, PTA Treasurer discussed the budget.  The totals for Open House were $1250, the Fall fundraiser $23,635, and the Fall Book Fair $2717.  The current balance in the PTA account is $44,392.99.

Tracey discussed the need for a better system to request payments for buses.  It is now the policy that teachers need to see Karen Vedera, in the office, for a PO # and the PO # needs to be on the check request.

It was determined by an e-mail vote that the following items will be purchased by PTA:

1.      playground toys & a shed

2.      boulders near the turf area

3.      special request fund

4.      cement

5.      benches

Meg Stearns discussed the Character Count Kids.  She and Nancy Leffler have researched the shed and they are requesting the purchase of a 10x10 wood shed to store new playground toys.  Once the shed has been purchased they will be asking for parent assistance in assembly of the shed.  Students will have to report on the condition of the toys (broken, flat, need fixed, etc…).  Mrs. Stearns discussed talking to Lowes for a donation.  It was discussed that students possibly paint the shed in school colors.  The possibility of getting roofing donations for the shed was also discussed.

It was explained that the special request fund would be $1,500 and if would be for students who need things.  The teacher would have to submit something in writing before the money goes out and it would be reviewed by Gina Martinez.

On November 18, 2007, Cottonwood Mall is having an Evening of Giving.  PTA is selling tickets for $10 and part of the money will go to Petroglyph.
