General PTA Meeting – March 3, 2008

 

 

The meeting was brought to order by PTA President, Davine Sanchez.  The meeting was held at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria.  Approximately 8 individuals were present at the meeting.

 

The minutes from the January 14, 2008, General PTA meeting were read.

 

Tracey Witte, PTA Treasurer discussed the budget.  The total from popcorn is $563.15, Winter Carnival $4877.51, and PTA paid $461.49 in prizes for the carnival.  The current balance in the PTA account is $34,541.90.

 

Ms. Thompson & Ms. Darr classes made the most at the Winter Carnival ($428.25).  One of the most popular booths was Ms. Medina’s sucker pull ($175).

 

PTA gave the Golden Apple Award to Mike.

 

The cookie dough fundraiser is almost complete; volunteers are needed to call to remind parents to pick up their orders.

 

March 11th from 6-9pm is the Cold Stone fundraiser at the Riverside plaza location.  Mr. Jackson has agreed to scoop ice cream.  50% of the sales received between 6-9pm will be donated to Petroglyph.  If anyone is interested in scooping ice cream please call Kelly Martin (792-2288) or email at abqklm1@aol.com.

 

The planning meeting for the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon will be held Wednesday, March 5th at 9:30am.

 

The Spring Book Fair will be during Jog-a-thon, April 21-24.  Traci Cadigan will be in charge of the Book Fair.  Amy Keller will be coordinating the Jog-a-thon.

 

A Blood Drive will be held April 28th, Amy Keller will be coordinating.

 

The End of the Year celebration will be held May 8th from 5:30-8pm.  A planning meeting will be held March 12th.

 

The Yearbook is in process.  We still have a few grades that are not assigned.  We still need snapshots for the yearbook.

 

Melissa Maes requested that PTA help facilitate the use of PTA buses that are not used by the upper grades; that other teachers could use those buses.  Mr. Jackson offered to help with this issue.  The cost of a bus is $175.

 

It was requested that PTA purchase benches for the playground and the Character Counts Kids requested a 10x10 shed to hold equipment.  The requests were approved by PTA.

 

It was requested that PTA pay for t-shirts ($7 per student) for two 5th grade classes for the Mars Mission project.  It was determined at PTA will provide $2 per student for the t-shirts.  The PTA scholarship fund can be used for students that can not pay the additional $5.

 

Mr. Jackson discussed the Superintendent Candidates Forum on March 7th, everyone is invited to attend the forum and meet the APS Superintendent candidates.

 

In April Petroglyph will be participating in a 2 week food drive for Store House.  Christie Schultz stated that the Store House feeds a lot of babies and are always in need of formula and baby food.

 

SBA Testing is currently taking place for the 3rd – 5th graders.

 

Kindergarten Tours will be held in April and May.

 

May 22nd will be the last day of school because of the make-up snow day.

 

April 17th will be the DSSR site visit.  The team will visit 1/3 of the classrooms. 

 

Next year standard based report cards will be issued.  Information meetings will be held to provide information about the report cards.

 

The next general PTA meeting will be Monday, May 5, 2008 at 7:00pm.  We will be voting for new PTA officers at the May meeting.
