Mitchell's Message
Board
The APS Communications/Web Department has created a
parent-friendly web page that explains the District Benchmark Assessment
(DBA). The page includes information on what benchmark assessments are;
what is the difference between the DBA and the SBA; who takes the test;
what subjects are tested; how are these test scores used to improve
student progress and more. The page also includes a video featuring
Chief Academic Officer Linda Sink explaining why our students take these
tests and how the results are used to improve education. In addition, it
includes several helpful links. The web address for the page is
www.aps.edu/parents/understanding-dba. It also can be accessed from
the homepage at www.APS.edu
by clicking "Understanding District Benchmark Assessments" in the orange
box under Parents.
Safety Reminders:
-
There is no student
drop-off or pick-up on the east side of
the school. All students in cars should
arrive and depart school on the west
side of the school.
-
Dogs are not allowed on
campus, even on a leash. Please refrain
from bringing your family pet to school
to pick up your child. We have many
students that are very afraid of dogs
and this has caused some stress for
them.
-
All visitors to campus,
even regular volunteers, need to sign-in
in the office and get a visitors pass.
The only time a pass is not required is
during drop-off and pick-up
.
-
Please remind your
middle school and high school students
that if they are on our campus to pick
up a younger sibling, they MUST wait in
the office. We have had older students
playing on the playground equipment,
fooling around in the bathrooms, and
disturbing classrooms.

District Proof of Residency Procedures
All students registering with APS must
present proof of residency within their school’s boundary area every
year. Proof of residency for Mitchell will be any ORIGINAL March or
April PNM bill with parent name and address on it. You MUST present the
top portion of original bill—NO COPIES will be accepted or made. The
original bill will only be used to determine residency and will be
returned if necessary when verification is made. New property owners
and/or renters that have not received utility bills can bring in an
original purchase/rental agreement with their name on it.
ParentLink Information
APS
has implemented ParentLink, the new district-wide communication system. Parents will receive a phone call or
e-mail every time their child is late or absent. As soon as teachers take attendance,
the system begins to call or e-mail the parents to notify them of their
child’s absence or tardies, whether excused or unexcused. Please
continue to call the school to report your child’s absence or tardy.
ParentLink will also be used to notify you of upcoming events,
school delays or closings,
if your child has a negative account in the cafeteria,
and in the event of an emergency. Please remember to notify the office
if you have a change of contact information.
New
Requirements for Parent Volunteers!
Any parent or adult
volunteer who will be with children without an APS employee
present (i.e.: driving on a field trip, tutoring, etc.) must obtain a
background check and fingerprinting. This must be done through APS
and the cost is $29.95 to be paid by money order or cashier's check.
Get a volunteer form from our office prior to going to APS.
Approval notification will be obtained within 48 hours. Thanks for
your support!
Anyone coming on campus MUST SIGN IN AT THE
OFFICE AND RECEIVE A VISITOR'S BADGE TO BE WORN WHILE ON CAMPUS!!
Please park on in the designated
parking lots. We must keep the circle drives clear during the day
for any possible emergency and clear during pick-up and drop-off times
for the safety of our children!!
