Governor Bent Participates in Albuquerque Aloft Program

Starbucks did a booming business the morning of September 30th. Governor Bent was one of many schools in Albuquerque that hosted a balloon launch on the Friday before the Balloon Fiesta. We were fortunate to have two balloons lift off on our campus that morning. Parents with hot coffee and children with hot chocolate watched and waited in the cool fall morning while the balloons inflated.

The two balloons that came to Governor Bent were Floating Point and Desert Dancer.  Floating Point  is sponsored by Intel. Desert Dancer is sponsored by Howard Johnson Hotels.

Desert Dancer, piloted by Charles Ludberg, one of our Governor Bent parents,  inflated first and then loaned their fan to the Floating Point crew so they could inflate. Floating Point then launched as the crowd of about 100 students, teachers and parents cheered.

We hope this becomes an annual event at Governor Bent. Click here to see more pictures of the launch.

Governor Bent's Pin Design Winner

Fifth Grader, Rachel, won first place for Governor Bent Elementary in the pin design contest sponsored by the Albuquerque Aloft Balloon Fiesta. She won this lovely t-shirt.  Her beautiful drawing was entered with the winners from all the other schools in the overall contest for the design that will be manufactured onto a pin. That winning pin will be sold as the official pin of the 2005 Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.

The top 10 winners from the district will be displayed at the Fiesta this year. Everyone who goes to the Fiesta should look for the display to see if Rachel's is one of the top 10! It certainly deserves to be there!  Congratulations, Rachel!

Destination Imagination teams go to national competition

Governor Bent sent two teams to the Destination Imagination competition in Tennessee this summer. To be eligible to go, the teams won competitions at a local level. These students showed amazing creativity and teamwork to have reached this level in the program. We are proud of the teams and are glad that they represented us in this way.

Mediators help students solve problems

You will see them on the playground in blue shirts. They will be helping students work through their problems with relationships. They are Governor Bent's own Mediators. These 4th and 5th grade students go through training to learn to step their peers through solutions to quarrels and disagreements. Way to go, mediators! We are always glad to see you at work on the playground!
