Third Grade Rio Grande River Project
 

This group worked specifically on plants.  Starting with general information about plants, they moved to a study of the plants of the Rio Grande River. A special thanks to the Rio Grande Nature Center for their varied resources and support!

We also used other games to learn about bosque plants and Cottonwoods.

We learned how the Rio Grande River changed from being a wild river (Rio Bravo) to being tamed (Rio Manso).  The first photo shows a wild river full of meanders and sand bars.  As we added levees and jetty jacks, we straightened the river.  It changed the habitats of many animals and plants.  What will we do to improve the river, to get back some of what we have destroyed?  What will Rio Nuevo be like?

I observed that this forb has a simple leaf pattern, the leaves are arranged in an alternate way, the leaves grow along the stem, and the leflets have a parallel vein pattern.
