Mrs. Nick's Excellent
Adventure
Part IV: Miyajima Island |
| It wasn't really New York, but these
cuties also took the ferry it Miyajima Island, a short distance from
Hiroshima. |
This orange torii (gate) is one of
Japan's most famous sites. Miyajima is considered one of Japan's 3 most
beautiful places. |
This Shinto shrine is almost like
a maze, with many small rooms for wishing and praying. We
were lucky to see a wedding. |
| The groom and brider, in a traditional
white kimono. |
The temple maidens prepare to serve
sake to the bride and her mother. |
At high tide, water comes in and
surrounds the temple. |
| A lovely tram ride over the green
forested mountains and across the sea to Monkey Island where we didn't see
any monkeys! |
It was a long and sweaty hike to
the top of the mountain but there were many beautiful shrines along the way,
like this one. |
Which shoes are mine? |
| One of many distant islands seen
from the top of Monkey Island.. |
A final view of this gorgeous torii. |
A deer caught in the act of stealing!
All he wants is the paper tag, but ruins the souvenir in the meantime.
