Welcome to Governor Bent Elementary for 2007-2008!
We've adopted a motto –
Governor Bent Elementary, a school with heart.
We care, we share and we will be there.
We care, we share and we will be there.
This
represents an attitude we want our students to develop and carry with
them into their family and community. We count on you to be models and
support for them.
This year we will find meaningful ways to engage parents and community in the student learning process. We will continue to celebrate the many ways of learning that our students possess. Educators need support from all adults in the community, so join us in the adventure.
The PTA, staff and I have many exciting events planned for the school year. We will inform you about the Performance Standards as we inform your children. We have scheduled art and storytelling events and will continue our tradition of excellence in the Science Fair.
Continue to check the web site and newsletters for dates and details. Research still says that parents who attend school functions with their children make a lasting, positive impact on the educational process. You will be receiving information about the State and District Standards for Education. These are statements of exactly which concepts and skills you child will learn and how they will be able to demonstrate mastery. Please feel free to ask questions and give us feed back. We plan to have all children reach the same high standards and be clear that they can demonstrate their knowledge.
Our PTA is supporting the school through fundraising and they pledge to keep this to a minimum. They have scheduled two major fundraisers, the fall Wrapping Paper and Gift Sale and the Spring JogAThon. Please support these because the money goes directly to the classrooms where the children are! This year the office is adding an additional fundraiser after the PTA sale. This is meant to help the office provide for teacher and staff needs and be a service to the community. We will offer Entertainment Books. Do not feel obligated to purchase these. Thank you for any support, money or time spent with the children!
This will be a wonderful year full of caring and sharing and learning. Take the time to read every night with you child. You will make memories that will last a lifetime while building reading skills and vocabulary.
