Art/Geometry Exercises with
Ms. Jackson's Fifth Graders
The exercise was to draw a design and rotate it around an axis in 90 degree increments.

Steps:

1) The student draws a right angle.
2) A design is developed within the angle.
3) After the design is developed the student duplicates the quadrant.
4) Then flips the design horizontally and vertically or uses 90, 180, 270 degree flips.
5) Steps 3 and 4 are repeated, resulting in some very interesting art.

Many of the students were successful in developing a design with two lines of symmetry.  Some of the students were creative and developed other designs which were organic and not symmetrical.
