Tips For Success
Welcome to our class web
page!
These are just
a few things that will be happening on a regular basis. Please try
to make sure your child is keeping up with Nightly Reading, Nightly Writing,
and any other homework / responsibilities they have. It will help
me greatly and assure that your child gets the most out of 4th grade.
Nightly Reading
This year the
kids will be recording their Nightly Reading on a punchcard. Each
card will contain 20 boxes and need to be initialed and dated each night
that your child reads. I am asking that each child read at least
5 nights a week. When a punchcard is full, each student will receive
a new puchcard and a small prize. Nighly Reading punchcards
need to be returned every Monday so that I can record the information.
It is very important
that students are reading at home as well as in school. I read an
article recently in American Educator magazine which concluded that
the best readers (and the best overall students) are the ones who read
the most outside of school. Happy reading!
Nightly Writing
Yes, we will
be doing Nightly Writing this year. I am just giving the kids a few
weeks to get used to me and my quirky way of doing things. Sometime
after Labor Day I will send home a sheet explaining Nightly Writing.
Remember, the more you write, the better you get!
Assignment Sheet / Homework
Folders
When the
children first get to school, they write down their assignments on a sheet
in their folders. At the end of the day they cross off what they
completed. If there is any unfinished work, that is homework.
Hopefully this will help them to remember what they need to do once they
get home. A big part of doing well in school is getting
organized. One of my main goals
is to help them in this area.
Friday Work Folders
Every Friday
I will send home a folder with some of your child's corrected work.
Inside there is a sheet with a place to sign and date. I know it
seems like I am asking parents to sign a lot of items each week, but it
really doesn't take a lot of time. I feel it is important to keep
parents informed as to how their child is doing in school. It also
keeps me informed that parents are aware of their child's progress.
Multiplication Facts
As soon as your
child knows his/her multiplication facts, he/she will be in great shape
to learn long division, more complicated multiplication, how to reduce
fractions, etc. If there seems to be any area that is giving them
trouble, please help them by spending 5-10 minutes a night until they are
memorized. The 6's, 7's, and 8's are always the toughest!
BIG MONDAY
Nightly Reading,
NIghtly Writing, and signed Friday work folders are all due on
Monday
morning.
I tried to make it all on one day. I hope that is easier.
