Homework

HOMEWORK POLICY

(Updated 03-12-03)

Definition: Homework is an assignment to be done or completed outside the classroom.

The purpose of homework is to provide students with continued practice to reinforce and improve skills and to help students become more familiar with procedures or concepts. Homework also gives students some responsibility for their own learning. In addition, homework provides parents an opportunity to know about, or participate in their child's education.

It is recommended that the time mid-school students spend doing homework per night should average between one and one and one-half hours. Long-term assignments or projects announced in advance may be in addition to the above recommendations. The amount of homework in some electives may exceed these recommendations. This will be made known to the student prior to registration.

Absent students will have the opportunity to complete makeup work for full credit in a period of time equal to the number of days absent, unless other arrangements have been mutually agreed upon by the student and the teacher.

Students who are absent from school three days or longer in a row may request makeup work from teachers by calling the attendance office. Teachers should be given twenty-four hours to complete the makeup work. It may be picked up in the attendance office. If work is requested prior to a planned absence, the completed work will be due the day the student returns to school. If the absence was not planned (due to illness) the student still has the number of days absent to complete the makeup work.
