Emergency Plan

If it is necessary to evacuate the building during regular school hours, the following plan will be used:

1. ALL students and faculty will evacuate the building and go to their specified fire drill location. No one should re-enter the building until the three all clear bells are sounded.

2. If evacuation occurs during any lunch, students at lunch are responsible for reporting to their fourth period teacher at their outdoor fire drill location for roll call. Students should not cut through the building after the alarm has sounded nor should they go to their lockers, but should exit immediately to meet their teacher outside. (Teachers must make their fourth period students aware of this plan).

3. If an alarm goes off during passing period, the students report to the next period teacher's fire drill location. Students should go out the nearest exit and not cut through the building after the alarm has sounded.

4. If the building is evacuated just prior to dismissal, teachers should stay with their classes until the all clear bell has sounded. No one should go back into the building unless the bell has rung.

5. If parents arrive, students will only be dismissed to them if they show proper photo identification. Otherwise students will be held until normal dismissal time.

6. If it is necessary to evacuate the school site, students will be escorted by their teachers and all other school personnel to the TVI campus. No students will be dismissed until we reach TVI and all students are accounted for. Teachers should have a class list with them. Students will be dismissed to parents only if they show proper photo identification.

7. The nurse will set up an individualized evacuation plan for anyone with disabilities. She will contact the appropriate teachers.

8. If there is a bomb threat, the principal or designee will announce on the PA, "Mr. Brown, come to the office". Teachers and staff are asked to do a visual inspection of their rooms to see if anything is out of place or there are any extra boxes or containers. Teachers are asked to ring the office if they notice anything unusual. Approximately two minutes after the announcement the fire alarm will be rung and everyone is asked to follow fire drill procedures. Every effort will be made to notify classes being held outside.

9. When the principal is away, one or both of the assistant principals are in charge. If no administrators are in the building, the head of the Safety Committee is in charge (in case of an emergency).

*NOTE: If dismissal of school is necessary, APS emergency dismissal procedures will be followed (see this link).
