Goldilocks and the Three Bears

By Michael Hess, 8th-Grade Student
There once were three bears that lived in a two story cottage in the middle of the woods. Their names were Daddy bear, Momma bear, and Baby bear. The three bears had gotten up for a breakfast of porridge. The three bears all sat down to eat their breakfast."Ouch my porridge burned my tongue!" shouted baby bear.
Momma bear said, "Mine is hot too."
So all three of the bears decided to go for a little walk to let their bowls of porridge cool down. They figure out that if they find how fast they walk then they would know how long it would to walk the trail through the woods. The bears got out a measuring tape and measured out 50 meters making out each end. They timed each other how long it would take to walk these 50 meters. They took their data and averaged it out. Daddy bear took 38 s, Momma bear took 37 s, and Baby bear took 36 s to all walk the distance. They averaged it out like this: 36 + 37 + 38 = 111 / 3 = 37 s. They got an average time of 37 seconds. Next they used the formula Speed = Distance / Time or S = D / T. They divided 50m by 37s and got and average speed of 1.351351351. They rounded that number to the tenths place and they got 1.3 m/s. They knew that the walk that they would be going on was 2,000 m. Momma bear took 1.3 m/s and times it by 60 to get 78 m/minute. She took 2,000 m and divided it by 78 to get about 26 minutes. She figured that the family had already spent 4 minutes crunching the numbers and figuring how long the walk would take. She knew that 30 min would be plenty of time to let the porridge cool down enough. So the bears started on their 30 min walk.
There once was a girl named Goldilocks. She was having a walk through the woods. She noticed a little cottage and she was getting a little bit hungry. She noticed that the door was unlocks so she walked right into the house. She sees three bowls of porridge sitting on a table. She walks over to the table and tries the first bowl.
"It's too hot!" she states.
She tries the next bowl and again she burns herself. She doesn't try the next bowl because she is afraid of burning herself again so she looks around the house and finds a thermometer but the thermometer is in degrees Fahrenheit. She only understands Celsius, but she remembers about her 8th grade physics class and remembers about the lesson on temperature. She remembers that the formula for converting º F to º C. The formula is º F &endash; 32 = x 5 = divided by 9 = º C. She takes the temperature of the last bowl and it reads 65º F. She then plugs that into the formula; 65º F &endash; 32 = x 5 = divided by 9 = 18º C.
"Thank goodness," she exclaims with excitement, "now I can finally fill my stomach."
After she fills her stomach she accidentally knocks over one of the bowls of porridge. The bowl fell at a rate of 9.8 m/s/s. She knew that the bowl took about 0.5 seconds to hit the ground but she wanted to know how high the table was. She remembered back to her 8th grade class again and remembered the formula; D = _ x A x T2. She plugged in numbers and got this formula; D = _ x 9.8 x 0.52. She followed the order of operations and got 1.225 m. She rounded it to the nearest tenth and found that the table's height was 1.2 m high.
She decides that she is very tired because of all of the hard work and strenuous math work. She decides to take a nap. She walks what she thinks is the way to get to the second floor. She figures out that it is a pulley system used to get up to the next floor. She steps on a little platform and without much effort she pulls on a rope to get herself up to the second story. She turns around and studies the pulley. She notices that there are 5 wheels on the bottom floor and 5 wheels on the top floor. She figures that the more wheels you have the easier it is to lift a person up to a different floor.
She walks into a bedroom and she sees three beds. She tries the first bed and it's too stiff. She tries the next bed and it's too soft.
"Oh well, I guess that I'll try the last one. I hope that it is comfortable." She says with a smile on her face.
So she tries the last one and it's just right.
The bears come home with hungry stomachs and excitement for a good bowl of cool porridge. The bears walk into their kitchen.
With his eyebrows low and a mean voice Daddy bears says "Oh great someone's been eating my porridge!"
"Oh no someone knocked my bowl of porridge all over the floor." cried Momma bear.
"Someone's eaten up ALL of my porridge!" whined Baby bear.
The three bears take the pulley system up stairs to look for anyone who might still be in their house. Daddy bear storms into the bedroom and sees that someone is sleeping in Baby bear's bed. He slowly walks up to the bed and Daddy bear's heavy breathing wakes up Goldilocks. She wakes up and turns around to see a very strapping and angry bear looking dead into her eyes.
She yells with a high pitched small sound-wave scream that is heard all over the forest "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
Goldilocks was never heard of or seen ever again. And everyone lived happily after except for Goldilocks.
