RE: Annual Math Testing for 6th and 7th Grade Students
This letter is sent to you as an advance notification of our annual math placement testing for 6th and 7th grade students. This testing will occur all period in math class each day on the following dates: February 20, 21 and 22.
This testing will affect your students class placement for preregistration in March for the 2002-2003 school year. It is extremely important that your student be in school on all three of the above dates for the testing. Please do not schedule any medical or dental appointments during these three days, other than those which are of an urgent/emergency nature. It is important that your student get a good nights sleep prior to each of the testing dates and a good breakfast on each testing day.
Each classroom teacher will also compute a year-to-date grade for each student by Friday, February 22. This average of each students work for the entire school year will be an important component of the math class placement process for next school year.
I. Students in 6th and 7th Grade Enriched Math Classes:
All students in these classes will be given the three Differential Aptitude Test (D.A.T.) components which pertain to placement in Enriched Math classes for next year. Please carefully read the attached document, enititled Enriched Math Testing & Placement Procedures to understand the requirements for placement of students in next years Enriched Math classes.
II. Students in 6th and 7th Grade Regular Math Classes:A. Students whose present year-to-date grade in class is 80% or higher willbe given the D.A.T. testing to determine whether or not any of thesestudents qualifies for the Enriched Math Program for next schoolyear. Parents of these students should also carefully read theattached document, Enriched Math Testing & Placement Procedures).B. III. Notification of Placement:
On Tuesday, March 5, a letter will be sent home with each student, explaining that students placement in math for the 2002-2003 school term. Each students testing grades for each test given will be included in this letter. This letter, with the parents signature, must be returned to the math classroom teacher for students who qualify for Enriched Math classes for next year by Friday, March 8. The letter must also be signed and returned by March 9, for students who will be enrolled in the Developmental Math program for the following school year.
In this fashion each of our 6th and 7th grade students, and their parents, will be given clear and definitive information about math placement for the 2002-2003 school term.
